Records of businesses in Jamestown, N.C., and Greenville and Earlesville, S.C.: ledgers, 1832-1841; 1839-1844; 1846-1869; 1850-1863; and day books, 1833-1836; 1834 Jan.-Dec.; 1842-1849; 1852-1857 [with estate accounts, 1867-1881]; and 1867-1877. Seven ledgers document business dealings of Earle's tan yard of Earlesville (Spartanburg County, S.C.); volume, 1848-1849, includes letter, 23 Nov. 1866, from O.P. Earle to "Mama," re bills due for hides and leather from "Aunt and Theron Montgomery" and others; another volume, 1852-1876, contains letter, 4 March 1872, from William E. Earle to "Dearest." Volume of daybook, 1852-1857, and estate accounts, 1867-1881, from estates of Theron and Hannah Earle, includes letter, 4 Mar. 1872, W[illia]m E. Earle to "My Dear [Cousin?]," re copies of business conducted by Earle in years 1869, 1870, and 1871, case of McCline v. Stelle, and expressing his hopes of securing $141 from "wreck of estate of Frank Prince ..." Day book, 1867-1877, includes accounts with laborers on end papers. Two day books, 1833-1836 and Jan.-Dec. 1834, of Thomas H. Bevens and W.C. Bevens document commerce at general merchandise stores in Jamestown, N.C., and Greenville, S.C.; although this store was apparently unrelated to Earle's business, Bevens' volume includes entries documenting purchases by Theron and Hannah Earle, parents of O.P. Earle.
